คุณยายบราวน์กับบรรณารักษ์ห้องสมุดประจำเมือง        เดลิเมล์ - แม้สายตาฝ้าฟางด้วยอายุขัยที่ล่วงเลยถึงวัย 91 ปี แต่หลุยส์ บราวน์ ยังคงขมักเขม้นอ่านหนังสือด้วยใจรัก โดยเมื่อเร็วๆ นี้เพิ่งยืมหนังสือจากห้องสมุดเล่มที่ 25,000 ที่สำคัญ ไม่เคยเลยแม้แต่ครั้งเดียวที่บราวน์ต้องเสียค่าปรับจากการส่งคืนหนังสือล่า ช้า                 คุณยายบราวน์อ่านหนังสือสัปดาห์ละ 12 เล่มเป็นอย่างน้อย ไม่รวมหนังสือพิมพ์ที่อ่านเป็นประจำทุกวัน                 บราวน์ ชาวเวลส์โดยกำเนิด เริ่มเป็นแขกประจำของห้องสมุดในแคสเซิล ดักกลาส ทางใต้ของสก็อตแลนด์ ตั้งแต่ปี 1946 เมื่อย้ายมาอยู่ที่เมืองดังกล่าว อีก 7 ปีต่อมา คุณยายย้ายมาอยู่กับลูกสาวที่สแตรนเรอร์ ทางใต้ของสก็อตแลนด์เช่นเดียวกัน และยืมหนังสือจากห้องสมุดประจำเมืองนับแต่นั้นเป็นต้นมา                 ส่วนใหญ่คุณยายจะยืมหนังสือที่มีตัวหนังสือโตพออ่านได้ และบรรณารักษ์ห้องสมุดกำลังติดต่อกับห้องสมุดอื่นๆ เพื่อสอบถามว่ามีใครเคยยืมหนังสือออกไปมากกว่าคุณยายอีกหรือไม่                 "พ่อแม่ฉันเป็นหนอนหนังสือตัวยง ส่วนตัวฉันเองก็ชอบอ่านหนังสือมาตลอด ฉันเริ่มอ่านตั้งแต่อายุห้าขวบและไม่เคยหยุดอ่านเลยนับจากนั้น หนังสืออะไรฉันก็อ่านได้หมด"                 แต่หนังสือที่คุณยายโปรดปรานคือ หนังสือแนวครอบครัว นวนิยายอิงประวัติศาสตร์ และเรื่องราวเกี่ยวกับสงคราม                 "ฉันยังชอบอ่านนิยายรักตอนกลางคืนด้วย"                 หลุยส์ ไพรด์ ลูกสาวของบราวน์ สำทับว่า "แม่มีอุปกรณ์ช่วยในการอ่าน และมักยืมหนังสือที่พิมพ์ตัวใหญ่ๆ หน่อย แต่ปัญหาก็คือ แม่อ่านหนังสือเกือบจะหมดห้องสมุดประจำเมืองแล้ว                 "แม่ยังหาเวลาอ่านหนังสือพิมพ์และดูทีวีทุกวัน เพราะต้องการรู้ข่าวสารความเป็นไป"                 "เราต่างประหลาดใจกับการอ่านของบราวน์ ตอนที่มาใช้บริการครั้งแรก เธอได้รับอนุญาตให้ยืมได้แค่หกเล่มต่อสัปดาห์ แต่ตอนนี้เธอยืมได้ 12 เล่มและเธอก็ยืมเต็มโควตาทุกครั้ง                 "และถึงเธอจะยืมหนังสือมา 25,000 เล่มแล้ว แต่เธอไม่เคยถูกปรับจากการคืนหนังสือล่าช้าแม้แต่ครั้งเดียว                 "บรรณารักษ์ของห้องสมุดสแตรนเรอร์คิดว่า บราวน์เป็นสุภาพสตรีที่พิเศษมาก และก็ตั้งตารอเธอทุกสัปดาห์ พวกเขาอยากรู้ว่าจะมีใครทำลายสถิติของเธอหรือไม่" เจนิซ โกลดี้ จากห้องสมุดเขตดัมฟรีส์และแกลโลเวย์ ทิ้งท้าย

วันที่ 21 สิงหาคม พ.ศ. 2552 เวลา 15:55:41 น.  มติชนออนไลน์ เผยรายชื่อ 10 โรงแรม เจ้าของสถิติ"ที่สุด"ในด้านต่าง ๆ ทั่วโลก สำหรับนักท่องเที่ยวผู้นิยมชมชอบในโรงแรมที่มีสถิติเป็นที่สุดของโลกในด้านต่าง ๆ เว็บไซต์ www.hotels.com ได้จัดอันดับโรงแรมในประเทศต่าง ๆ ทั่วโลกที่มีสถิติของความเป็นที่สุดใน 10 ด้านออกมา ได้แก่ 1. โรงแรมที่สูงที่สุดในโลก คือ โรงแรม "เบิร์จ อัล อาหรับ" ในรัฐดูไบ ประเทศสหรัฐอาหรับเอมิเรตส์ โดยโรงแรม 7 ดาวแห่งนี้มีความสูงอยู่ที่ 321 เมตร และถูกสร้างอยู่บนเกาะที่ได้รับการถมสร้างขึ้นมาด้วยน้ำมือมนุษย์ ณ ท้องทะเลของรัฐดูไบ 2. โรงแรมที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในโลก (พิจารณาจากจำนวนห้องพัก) คือ "เดอะ พาลาซโซ่ รีสอร์ต โฮเทล แอนด์ คาสิโน" ในเมืองลาสเวกัส มลรัฐเนวาดา ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา โดยโรงแรมแห่งนี้มีจำนวนห้องพักเป็นจำนวนมากถึง 8,108 ห้อง 3. โรงแรมที่เก่าแก่ที่สุดในโลก คือ  โรงเตี๊ยม "โฮชิ เรียวกัน" ที่เมืองโคมัตสึ ประเทศญี่ปุ่น ซึ่งเปิดให้บริการมามากกว่า 1,300 ปี โดยโรงเตี๊ยมขนาด 100 ห้องแห่งนี้ถูกดำเนินกิจการโดยคนในครอบครัวเดียวกันมาถึง 46 ชั่วอายุคนแล้ว 4. โรงแรมที่มีห้องพักราคาแพงที่สุดในโลก คือ ห้องพัก "รอยัล วิลล่า" ของ "แกรนด์ รีสอร์ต ลาโกนิสซี" ในกรุงเอเธนส์ ประเทศกรีซ โดยผู้ต้องการเข้าพักในห้องพักที่สามารถมองเห็นวิวของทะเลอีเจียนจากสระว่ายน้ำส่วนตัวที่มีเครื่องมือนวดในระบบพลังน้ำห้องนี้ จะต้องจ่ายค่าห้องพักในราคา 50,000 เหรียญสหรัฐ หรือประมาณ 1,600,000 บาท ต่อหนึ่งคืน 5. โรงแรมที่ใช้งบประมาณในการก่อสร้างมากที่สุดในโลก คือ โรงแรม "เอมิเรตส์ พาเลซ" ในกรุงอาบูดาบี ประเทศสหรัฐอาหรับเอมิเรตส์ โดยโรงแรมที่เปิดให้บริการเมื่อปี ค.ศ.2005 (พ.ศ.2548) แห่งนี้ ใช้งบประมาณในการก่อสร้างถึง 3,000 ล้านเหรียญสหรัฐ หรือประมาณ 96,000 ล้านบาท จากการใช้เงิน ทอง และหินอ่อน เป็นวัสดุในการก่อสร้าง นอกจากนั้นโรงแรมแห่งนี้ยังติดตั้งโคมไฟระย้าที่ทำขึ้นมาจากแก้วคริสตัลของ "สวารอฟสกี้" เป็นจำนวนถึง 1,002 ชิ้น 6. โรงแรมที่มีห้องพักขนาดใหญ่ที่สุดในโลก คือ ห้อง "รอยัล สูท" ของ "เดอะ แกรนด์ ฮิลส์ โฮเทล แอนด์ สปา" ในเมืองบรวมมานา ประเทศเลบานอน โดยห้องพักดังกล่าวมีขนาด 8,000 ตารางเมตร กินพื้นที่ 6 ชั้น อันประกอบไปด้วยส่วนของห้องพัก สระว่ายน้ำสองสระ สวน ระเบียง และกระโจมส่วนตัวของผู้เข้าพัก 7. โรงแรมที่มีความหนาวเย็นที่สุดในโลก คือ "ไอซ์ โฮเทล" ในเมือง จุคคาสจาร์วิ ประเทศสวีเดน เพราะห้องพักทั้งหมดของโรงแรมแห่งนี้ถูกสร้างขึ้นมาจากน้ำแข็งและหิมะนั่นเอง 8. โรงแรมที่อยู่บนสถานที่ที่สูงที่สุดในโลก (พิจารณาจากความสูงของชั้นตึก) คือ โรงแรม "พาร์ค ไฮแอตต์" ในนครเซี่ยงไฮ้ ประเทศจีน โดยโรงแรมแห่งนี้ตั้งอยู่บนชั้น 79-93 ของอาคาร "เซี่ยงไฮ้ เวิลด์ ไฟแนนซ์" ซึ่งมีความสูงทั้งหมด 101 ชั้น 9. โรงแรมที่อยู่บนสถานที่ที่สูงที่สุดในโลก (พิจารณาจากการอยู่เหนือระดับน้ำทะเล) คือ "โฮเทล เอเวอเรสต์ วิว" ที่ตั้งอยู่ในบริเวณเทือกเขาเอเวอเรสต์ ประเทศเนปาล โดยโรงแรมแห่งนี้ตั้งอยู่บนความสูง 3,880 เมตรเหนือระดับน้ำทะเล 10. โรงแรมที่เป็นมิตรกับสิ่งแวดล้อมมากที่สุดในโลก คือ "เดนทรี อีโค ลอดจ์ แอนด์ สปา" ในรัฐควีนส์แลนด์ ประเทศออสเตรเลีย โดยโรงแรมที่ตั้งอยู่ในเขต "ป่าหนาทึบเขตร้อนซึ่งมีฝนตกชุก" ที่มีอายุเก่าแก่ที่สุดแห่งนี้ ได้รับคำชื่นชมจากการพยายามสร้างมาตรฐานของการท่องเที่ยวอย่างยั่งยืน ผ่านการใช้พลังงานแสงอาทิตย์ ใช้หลอดไฟประหยัดพลังงาน และมีไร่นาชีวภาพที่ใช้เพาะปลูกผลผลิตทางการเกษตรของตนเอง     http://www.matichon.co.th/news_detail.php?newsid=1250844682&grpid=01&catid=06

Joing instructions and examples   RECENT HIGHLIGHT Teaching Knowledge Test for Thai teachers The British Council organised the Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) for 4,500 teachers in Thailand earlier this month. They were trained using one of the British Council’s global products called TKT Essentials to help them prepare for the test. More than 20,000 Thai teachers of English have now taken the Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) with the British Council since 2007. This specially designed test aims to increase teachers' confidence and strengthen the key areas of their teaching knowledge. This test also helps the Ministry of Education in identifying the English language proficiency levels of English language teaching staff and determining the next steps in the development programme for them.
